FIIG Securities Opens Corporate Bond Market to Investors
Fixed income broker FIIG Securities has launched a groundbreaking new service that lets ordinary investors access more than 25 corporate bonds that had been the preserve of banks, fund managers and the ultra wealthy.
The new "Direct Bonds" service lets investors buy high-yielding, investment-grade bonds in parcels as small as $50,000, down from the previous $500,000 minimum that had put corporate bonds out of reach of most people.
FIIG Securities Managing Director Jim Stening said the new service was a major step in opening up the Australian bond market to individuals, companies and self-managed super funds who were looking for an investment that was safer than equities but higher yielding than a term deposit.
"For too long there has been a gap in the Australian investment landscape where investors were locked out of directly accessing corporate bonds in the secondary market because of the impediments to these investors buying and holding corporate bond", Mr Stening said.
"After many months of work we have finally developed a service that overcomes this obstacle and gives investors direct access to invest in secure, high-yielding senior debt from some of Australia's biggest bluechips."
Using FIIG's service, investors can acquire a diversified portfolio of investment-grade bonds which delivers a high, consistent income stream that is more reliable than share dividends and puts their capital at less risk.
Investors can buy bonds issued by a range of household names including as Telstra, GE Capital.
They can choose fixed or floating rate bonds and can vary the amount invested in each bond.
FIIG Securities is Australia's largest specialist fixed-income broker and provides direct access to fixed income investments. FIIG has more than $5 billion in term deposits under advice in its short term money market business.
