Research
FIIG has an in-house team of eight research staff dedicated to providing comprehensive fixed income research. The Research Team covers:
- Australian banks and other financial institutions and corporations
- International banks and corporations with Australian dollar bond issues
- Infrastructure
- Listed interest rate securities (hybrids and retail bonds)
- Economic and regulatory developments in fixed income markets
- Fixed income education and training seminars
The Team provides detailed analysis which focuses on the usual qualitative and quantitative assessments of the entity in addition to the entity's overall creditworthiness. Unlike equity analysis where the assessment is driven by growth opportunities, fixed income research focuses on the ability of the company to continue to operate, so drivers and analysis differs. Investors in the fixed income asset class need specific fixed income research to fully understand their investment decisions.
The research that FIIG provides is often selected and quoted in the Australian media as industry experts in fixed income.
Because FIIG only deals in fixed income, we assess a selected company's various debt issues to determine the best value to invest across the capital structure of that firm. That is we make suggestions on where FIIG believe the best return is relative to the risk involved in that call.
For example, having assessed Westpac and being comfortable with the credit, FIIG will recommend the best value point in the capital structure across deposits, senior debt, subordinated debt and hybrids. This assessment is ongoing and clients are advised when material changes occur in the relative value of those securities.
